BIOSTIMULATION THREADS

Biostimulation threads are based on the mechanism of action of the absorbable suture threads used in surgery.
In reality, this is nothing new, but rather a new application within aesthetic medicine of a thread that has been used for decades for absorbable surgical sutures.

What are biostimulation threads?
They are smooth threads, made of biocompatible material, which are completely resorbed by hydrolysis in 6 months.
The threads inserted into the skin stimulate natural hydration by biostimulation.
The biostimulation threads during the entire resorption period (4 to 6 months) will therefore stimulate good skin hydration. The treatment can be repeated every 4 to 6 months.
However, this procedure requires a few days of rest after the treatment because bruises may appear.

Biostimulation threads: which areas of the face respond best to the treatment?
The areas that respond best to treatment with biostimulation threads are:

  • cheeks (seem to be the best indication)
  • neck
  • décolletage (rarely)

Biostimulation threads: contraindications

Treatment with biostimulation threads is contraindicated for those who suffer from:

  • bleeding diathesis
  • allergy
  • patients with severe excess skin

The new generation of biostimulation threads

The new generation of biostimulation threads is proving successful because it is a non-surgical and minimally invasive treatment.

Without surgery, 1 or 2 sessions are enough to:

  • achieve a tensor effect
  • achieve a smoothing effect
  • improve contours of the face
  • rejuvenate the neck and décolletage

In the case of very wrinkled and aged skin, the use of suspension or traction threads, which also provide a "lifting" effect on the tissues, can also be used.

Biostimulation threads: materials

Biostimulation threads are made of resorbable biocompatible materials.

Among the most used resorbable biostimulating materials, are:

  • PDO-Polydioxanone
  • Glycolic Acid
  • Caprolactone
  • others

The mechanism of action of biostimulation threads

The choice of the active ingredients is determined by the fact that once inserted into the skin a natural stimulation of new collagen and elastin in the dermis will be achieved (the formation of new collagen and elastin will improve the skin and rejuvenate it).

Combinations of biostimulation threads with other treatments

Biostimulation threads can be combined with other aesthetic treatments.
Among the combinations, are:

  • PRP (autologous plasma treatment)
  • laser treatment (biostimulation threads can be perfectly integrated into a combined procedure with rejuvenation treatment by physical methods, including laser therapy)
  • combination of biostimulation and suspension/traction threads

The choice of biostimulation threads in combination with other treatments is generally based:

  • on the areas to be treated
  • the depth you have to reach in the dermis

The combination of treatments will stimulate the entire process of biological rejuvenation and tissue biostimulation, and trigger the natural synthesis of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid

Some examples of a combination of treatments with biostimulation threads, include:

  • around the eyes and forehead in combination with radiofrequency treatment
  • double chin, with ultrasound treatment  for general skin improvement
  • décolletage,  with laser treatment for skin rejuvenation

When is it better to use biostimulation threads than other treatments?

Biostimulation threads on their own are useful where:

  • the skin is thin and has a greater potential for reshaping
  • facial irregularities
  • skin blemishes

Biostimulating threads: after treatment

  • the stimulating effect is visible after 2-4 weeks
  • avoid intense physical activity for 6 hours
  • avoid direct sunlight until redness, swelling and bruising are visible
  • avoid alcohol
  • avoid nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
  • you can apply make-up immediately
  • you can quickly resume your usual activities

Biostimulation threads: side effects

Complications are very rare; the treatment is well-tolerated but there could be side effects such as:

  • oedema
  • erythema
  • itching
  • pain and sensitivity at the injection sites
  • common reactions to a normal injection lasting from a few hours to 12–24 hours
  • small blood extravasations, that resolve in a few days.

Biostimulation threads: the results

After treatment the results are immediately visible, but will be temporary (the results are not permanent, but last for 8–12 months) so the treatment must be repeated after a certain period of time.
The results will be evaluated according to the area treated:

  • face: on the face a thread lift can have a firming, smoothing, younger, fresher and more toned effect as a whole, as well as redefining the profile of the face.
  • neck: it will have a rejuvenating effect and increase skin tone
  • décolletage, the skin is improved and more toned
  • buttocks, thighs and arms: rejuvenation, better skin texture and redefinition of the shape of the body

The new generation of resorbable biostimulation threads represent a very interesting complement in the field of aesthetic treatments.
